Welcome
to the Trivia page. Basically, I needed a place to put the interesting things
I know or have read about lights, so here 'tis. Enjoy!
- A crystal-filament light bulb was patented in 1989 by John and Peter Milewski.
This bulb promises more light with less energy use. Also, longer filament
life since the filament is incredibly strong!
- I found it interesting that the website, led-light.com is owned by General
Electric Company, but other than stating that GE invented the LED in 1962,
the website says nothing about LED lights.
- LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) were invented by GE in 1962
- New LED Patent has been granted: #6,850,001 on February 1, 2005. This
is for an LED light which incorporates a resin material with a fluorescent
coating. The purpose (very basically) to improve the light transmission
and also change the wavelength (the color of light).
- OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) Patent #6,849,877 granted February
1, 2005--this invention may replace LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) TVs and
computer monitors!
- Infrared LED Patent #6,850,013 granted February 1, 2005. Infrared LEDs
have applications in the fields of telecommunications, spectroscopy and,
in particular, gas sensors.
- LED with phosphors which absorb all or some of the LED's light, then emit
a higher wavelength (color) to attain various colors including white. Can
you see why LEDs are expensive? They are truly high-tech! Patent #6,850,002
granted February 1, 2005
- TCP manufactures a fluorescent bulb which deodorizes your house when it's
on. The fluorescent light is the catalyst which activates the titanium dioxide
coating. I can't wait to try these out!
